Iberian Lynx Tour
Discover the Iberian Lynx in the beautiful hills of Sierra Morena, among other highlights of the Iberian wildlife.
Tour highlights
Our Lynx safari is a magnificent mammal-watching experience as we discover the Mediterranean forest of Sierra Morena in Southern Spain. While the Iberian Lynx is the main target of this tour, chances to look for Otter, Iberian Ibex, Fallow Deer and iconic birds of Spain make this a fascinating safari.
Tour itinerary
The Iberian Lynx Tour starts when we meet in Málaga in the morning. Hitting the road immediately into rugged 'sierras' and the vast olive fields of Jaén will take us to the Lyxn realms of Sierra Morena in about 3 h drive. Time allowing we will give it a go at the Lynx territories right at arrival. Dinner and accommodation close to the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park.
The beauty of Sierra Morena mountain range and particularly the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park is unparalleled among all the mediterranean forests. We will spending the day checking and waiting on prime sites for the Lynx. Please note we generally need to stay waiting for it for a few hours, which give also good chances to watch Cinereous Vultures, Spanish Imperial Eagles, Iberian -azure winged- Magpies and Iberian Green Woodpecker. We will have great chances to see other mammals, such as Red deers, Fallow deers and Wild Boars.
The programme will include a visit to a specific Iberian Lynx hide located at a private state. This often proves to be a very nice addition to the tour, as it could provide the closest sighting. The hide is a simple facility with chairs where to wait for a Lynx to pass hunting or drinking. There is no need to bring a camera but of course it is a good idea for this activity. Hides are provided with toilet when needed and you don't need to be familiar with this to enjoy the activity.
In the early afternoon we can visit the Jándula river to look for Otter and Spanish Imperial Eagles. Dinner and accommodation close to the Sierra de Andújar Natural Park.
Just if you wonder, baiting is strictly prohibited.
Early start for some local wildlife watching before returning to Málaga, where the tour ends in the early afternoon. In private tours, extensions are available upon request.

Tour extensions
On private tours we usually can accommodate a tour extension upon request. 1 or 2-day extensions really make sense if you want to increase the chances of a closer encounter with the Lynx. Tackling with Iberian Lynx and the unpredictable behaviour of wild cats is like gambling. We have extensive knowledge of the area but the last word is on Nature.
On tour extensions we recommend including a complementary activity such extra stays at specific Lynx and bird hides, a visit to private states or forays to new bird watching sites -for example La Mancha-. Please query us for a tour extension if interested.
Meeting points
On private tours we can meet not just in Málaga but also other worth-visiting towns like Seville, Córdoba or Ronda.
